If you are visiting Madrid and feel the need to splurge on accommodation, ignoring the countless extremely convenient hostels surrounding the centre, then one option you have is the Urban Hotel, one step away from Sol, on the Carrera de San Geronimo. It’s a five stars hotel, part of the Derby Hotels chain. If you like an extremely modern Art-Deco setting with an Egyptian touch to it, then you will love this place!

I stayed there for three nights and it was a delightful experience. Apart from the fact that it took me 15 minutes to learn how to turn off all the lights and another 10 to open the shower in four different ways – it was great. A nice lady arranged our room each day, with roses, the traditional sweet in shape of an egg on the bed, my morning El Pais newspaper hanging from the door (which I actually read), some more sweets, and so on.

Not only that, but it’s in the best location possible, in Sol, where everything is, so there’s no real need to take the subway.

I highly recommend it!
