For those of you who don’t know yet, Pinterest is the latest social network to join the revolution of social media. While some media professionals may see it as another website in the overly saturated online world, think again! It is growing at a staggering speed!
Pinterst is an online pinning board by invite-only, similar to Google+. Users pin photos and videos of interest, and share and follow other users. It’s just like an online scrapbook for your most diverse interests, targeted for people who need to gather inspiration for various projects. Setting itself apart from the other social networks, Pinterest caters to a broad female user base with significant interest in crafts, home decorating, wedding planning, cooking, fashion styling and beauty. It is said to be the end of the heavy binders.
However, besides its overwhelming popularity amongst women, Pinterest is perfect for bloggers, start-ups looking to expand their network and clientele, marketing professionals and all the creative types out there! It is an abundant resource for designers of all sorts, with millions of consumers, just a pin away. A simple Google search will show just how successful this platform has become with its visual stimulation in conquering its ever growing audience.
The main secret to pinning success is to focus on a few selected interests. Pick a niche! It works better; otherwise, you risk losing yourself, as well as many hours of your precious time, by scouting amongst millions of pictures and ideas.
In a short amount of time, Pinterest has helped me gather my thoughts with the help of its virtual scrapbook. I have also expanded my network and generated more traffic to this blog and my two online columns: about travel, and interior design. I personally find it significantly more useful than other similar websites and I highly recommend it, for all the above reasons!
It has been recently announced that the Facebook Timeline users can also add their pins to their profiles, for easy access to all their projects and inspirations.
